In 90% cases I want to use the basic type of building rather then "last used"
I propose making numbers always select the primary building type - underbelt, basic splitter, ore miner, etc

When you need the secondary type, you press the key again, e.g. "7, 7" for large assembler

This allows getting what you need without an keyboard states also known as "vim modes" /joking
