Steps to Reproduce
- Set mouse button actions for left and right scroll wheel in Elecom Mouse Assistant software using an application specific profile targeting the portalwars application.
- Set left wheel click/motion to left bracket "[", and right click/motion of mouse wheel to right bracket "]", both set as keypresses/keyboard input.
- In the Splitgate Input menu enter the keybinding section.
- In keybinds attempt to set the portal left and right using the wheel clicking left and right for each bind respectively, it may or may not work initially.
- Set keybinds for left and right portal to left and right bracket manually using the keyboard, left bracket for left portal, right bracket for the right portal.
- Start a online match, test the portal fire by way of keyboard keypresses, they should work.
- Test portal fire using the scroll wheel left/right click, it should fail to register.
- Test input by opening chat box and test wheel left/right click, you should see the keypresses register.
- Enter the keybinding menu again , set keybinds for those two items again, this time it will register the keypresses by way of the scroll wheel left/right click now.
- Enter online match or resume match, portals still will not fire by way of mouse wheel left/right. Chat box still registers the input. Status unchanged.
Explanation
Keybinding cannot be set to Horizontal Axis (Left/Right) Scroll Wheel presses. They do not register during keybind capture. In addition, when setting the keybinds to an actual key, in this case, left bracket "[", then triggering the left bracket through mouse software (basically binding the left bracket to the left scroll wheel action), the software fails to recognize the input still. However, input is accepted in the chat window, text boxes, and even the keybinding action/process, it works. If I press the left bracket on my keyboard, it triggers the bind as expected. However, in game, it will not trigger or recognize the input when triggered via the mouse scroll wheel, it does work in the chat box while in game though. This is leading me to believe there is an implicit ignore or filter for that input in the game client, but then it shouldn't work at all anywhere, such as in the chat boxes or text fields. The mystery is more so, since I'm generating the keypress via my mouse software to begin with, shouldn't the input look like a keypress and not an event sourced from the mouse? So, something isn't right it would seem. Other binds that I have set are working, where I have a keypress set in the game client, and my mouse software is generating those presses based on my set buttons etc.
I'm using Elecom Mouse Assistant 6.21 for my EX-G Pro Trackball
